How To Sell Your Digital Products
How to Sell Your Products Online
You've got a finished recording. It's edited, polished, and ready. The next question is simple but important: how do you actually turn that file into something people can buy?
Your recording needs to go online
A finished product sitting on your computer or phone can't be sold - it needs to live somewhere customers can find it, pay for it, and receive it instantly. This is where a commerce platform comes in.
A basic overview of commerce websites
There are two broad ways to sell a digital product online:
A dedicated selling platform - a service built specifically for hosting and selling digital files (audio, PDFs, courses). It handles the checkout, secure delivery, and payment for you.
Full e-commerce on your own website - building a shop directly into your existing website (through something like Shopify or Squarespace Commerce). This gives you more control but means you're responsible for setting up and maintaining payment processing, secure downloads, and updates yourself.
For most people starting out, a dedicated platform is the simpler, faster route - and it's the one we'd recommend.
Why we suggest Payhip
Payhip is a platform built specifically for selling digital products, and it works particularly well alongside a website you already have:
It links easily to your existing site. You don't need to rebuild anything - you simply add a "Buy Now" button or a clickable image on your website that links straight to your Payhip checkout page.
It handles the technical side. Secure file hosting, instant delivery after purchase, and payment processing are all built in.
Payments go straight to you. Through Stripe integration, customer payments are processed securely and paid out directly to your bank account.
It manages tax where required. For digital products sold to customers in the UK, EU, US, and Canada, Payhip takes on the legal responsibility for collecting and paying the relevant VAT/sales tax - so you're not left working that out yourself.
In short: you keep your existing website exactly as it is, and simply add a link that sends people to a secure, ready-made checkout.
What information you'll need to set up a product listing
Before creating your listing, have the following ready:
1. Product title - clear and specific. "15-Minute Anxiety Reset" tells people more than "New Recording."
2. A brief description - two or three sentences covering what it is, who it's for, and what it helps with. This appears on your product page and should match what's on your website.
3. Product artwork/image - a simple cover image representing the product. This appears on the listing itself and wherever you link to it.
4. The finished file - your final, edited audio.
5. Price - for a first product, £5–£15 is a common, low-friction starting point.
6. Payment setup (Stripe) - connecting a Stripe account lets Payhip process card payments and pay them out to your bank account. This is a one-time setup step.
7. Visibility setting - make sure the listing is set to "visible" once you're ready to sell, rather than left hidden or in draft.
Adding the link to your website
Once your product is live on Payhip, you'll get a checkout link. From there, you can:
- Add a "Buy Now" button on your website that links directly to that checkout page
- Turn your product artwork into a clickable image that links the same way
- Add the same link to your social media bio, email signature, or newsletters
The customer clicks through from your site, completes payment on Payhip's secure checkout, and receives their file instantly - without you needing to manage any of that process manually.
A few other things worth setting up
- Currency settings - make sure your store currency matches your audience (GBP for a UK-based customer base) rather than being left on a default.
- A short "thank you" or delivery message - Payhip lets you customise what a customer sees/receives after purchase; a brief personal note here goes a long way.
- Testimonials or social proof, if you have any - even a line or two from a past client builds trust on the product page.
- A test purchase - before sharing the link publicly, go through the buying process yourself to confirm everything looks right and the file delivers correctly.
The short version
Your recording needs a home online before anyone can buy it. Payhip gives you that home - secure checkout, Stripe payments, and instant delivery - without needing to rebuild your website. You just need your title, description, artwork, price, and payment details ready, and a button or image on your site linking through to the sale.
